Quick summary

1. Overview & scope

PermitPal AU ("the App", "we", "us") is a study and practice-test app that helps learner drivers prepare for the theory/knowledge test required to obtain a learner permit or learner licence in an Australian state or territory.

This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, exactly what data the App handles and why. It applies to the mobile app distributed via the Apple App Store and Google Play, and to this website. In short: the App has no backend server, no user accounts, and does not transmit any data over the network — every study feature works fully offline.

2. Information we do not collect

The App does not ask for, request permission for, or otherwise collect:

3. Information stored on your device

To let you track your own study progress, the App saves the following data locally on your device only, using the device's private, sandboxed app storage. None of it is uploaded, synced, or made visible to us.

Data Examples Purpose
App preferences Selected state/territory, language, light/dark theme Remember your setup between sessions
Practice & mock-exam results Scores, dates, your answer to each question Show your history and track improvement
Saved & bookmarked questions Question IDs you marked to revisit Quick access to questions you want to review
Lesson progress Completed lessons and modules Show your position in the study roadmap
Study streaks Dates you opened/used the App Display your daily-streak motivation counter

This data is tied only to your device — it is never linked to your identity, never transmitted anywhere, and cannot be accessed by us, by other apps, or by anyone else unless they have physical access to your unlocked device.

4. How the app works offline

All curriculum text, lesson content, and the full practice-question banks are bundled inside the App at install time. The App does not call any remote server or API to load this content, check licences, or sync progress — it works identically with your device in airplane mode.

The App's core study features — lesson content, question banks, and practice/mock-exam sessions — never call a server on their own. That said, the installed app package does declare a system-level network permission, coming from (a) the in-app purchase library shared across both iOS and Android (see section 6), and (b) the outbound links described in the next section. This permission is not used by the App to collect or transmit any of your study data.

6. App Store / Play Store platform data

Installing and running the App through the Apple App Store or Google Play means Apple or Google, as the distribution platform, may collect standard install, download, device, and crash-level information under their own privacy policies — this happens at the operating-system / store level and is entirely outside the App's code and our control:

This also applies to the iOS Tip Jar transactions described in section 5 — Apple processes the entire in-app purchase under Apple's own privacy policy above; we only receive confirmation of whether the transaction succeeded, never any payment details.

7. Children's privacy

Learner permits/licences in Australia can be obtained from as young as 15–16 depending on the state or territory, so the App is intentionally usable by younger teenagers as well as adults. Because the App collects no personal information from any user, regardless of age, no personal data is ever collected from children through use of the App, and no parental-consent workflow is required for the App's own data practices.

8. Data retention & deletion

On-device study data is retained for as long as the App remains installed, or until you clear it yourself. You are always in full control:

Because nothing is stored off-device, there is no separate deletion request process needed — deleting locally is complete and immediate.

9. Your choices & rights

Because we never hold your personal information on any server, the usual rights to access, correct, export, or delete "your data held by a company" are inherently already satisfied — the only copy of your study data is the one on your own device, which you can view, change (by using the App), or erase at any time as described above.

If a future version of the App introduces optional cloud sync, accounts, or any other feature that involves us holding personal information, this policy will be updated first, and the applicable access/correction/deletion rights under Australian privacy law will be described here before that feature is enabled.

10. Data security

Since all of your study data stays on your device and is never transmitted, there is no server-side copy of it for us to protect, and no server for it to be exposed from in the event of a data breach. Your data's security therefore depends on the normal security of your device and operating system (device passcode/biometrics, OS-level app sandboxing, and keeping your device's software up to date) — the same protections that already guard the rest of your phone or tablet.

12. International use

The App's content is specific to Australian state and territory road rules, but the App itself can technically be downloaded and used from anywhere. Because no data ever leaves your device, using the App from outside Australia does not involve any cross-border transfer of your personal information.

13. Changes to this policy

If the App's data practices change in the future — for example, if a feature requiring network access, accounts, or cloud sync is introduced — this page will be updated in advance, and the "Last updated" date and version number at the top will change accordingly. We recommend checking this page periodically, especially before granting any new permission the App may request after an update.
